This new Malay Language for Secondary Schools series is based on 2021 syllabus. The word JATi means pure, original or authentic. It simbolises the preservation of Malay language that highlights the learning of Malay Language in line with the development use of the language in Singapore context. In JATi, language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, written and spoken interaction are used to enhance the learning of Malay language among students. These skills are incorporated through writing exercises and various scaffolded and meaningful activities such as drawing, singing, watching videos and listening to audio, thus making the learning of Malay language varied and more interesting. Students are also encouraged not only to work independently, but also with their peers through group work and peer assessment. Through self or group exploration and task based problem solving encourages students to deepen their understanding into the topic thus widen their knowledge through self realisation and findings. To make learning Malay Language more meaningful and near to students besides fun, interactive and challenging to student’s mind, semi-realistic lively illustrations and real images whenever possible are portrayed throughout the book. The introduction of mascots added the authenticity in bringing the context and real situation that revolves in student’s daily routine. The illustrations are mostly contextualized allowing students to closely relate them to the real world, thus value-adding their own knowledge on life experiences. JATi is a useful resource tool in developing student’s competency to use Malay language. The themes featured in JATi are specially crafted based on the life experiences of ordinary students, the issues and challenges that they are most likely to face in their daily life with the contemporary society. Yet, it does not neglect exposing students to the cultural aspect of the Malay society through values, customs and traditions. Students are moulded to become a morally upright global citizen while staying rooted to their heritage and embraces changes to stay relevant.
